the sketchbook exchange–since 2011

I may have written here about the sketchbook exchange before, probably a couple years ago. The game is: you buy a sketchbook, you draw, paint, doodle, write, glue, etc., on a page, then you send it to a friend and ask them to do the same. The creative conversation hopefully goes on and on.

I have several sketchbooks going with several different friends. I started this project after a book I read– An Illustrated Life, drawing inspiration from the private sketchbooks of artists, illustrators and designers by Danny Gregory. One of the artists, I can’t find the passage right now, wrote about the swap idea.  At the moment, all of my friends (except Ric) are taking a pause……in the sketchbook swap. I hope they’ll all re-discover their sketchbooks in their stacks of life. It is a good way to keep the pages warm and the hand moving and a connection strong.
